Norfolk Botanical Garden was started off by a young horticulturalist, Frederic Heutte and Thomas P. Thompson, Norfolk City Manager 19-35-1938. The fondness of azaleas and suitable weather for the plants was what prompted Huette and Thompson to pursue the idea of an azalea garden to rival those of Charleston in S.C., which even during the depression years drew throngs of tourists annually. The city of Norfolk then provided Huette and Thompson with a seventy five acre section of high, wooded ground and another seventy five acres of the Little Creek reservoir to establish a city garden.

The Spirit of Norfolk is a cruise liner that takes in more than 400 people at a time. It is the largest ship that cruises the harbor and has two climate control decks. Within 4 years after marrying his wife Eliza Abraham and moving to America, Moses Myers built a shipping empire fit for his export and import business. Moses Myers was an American Entrepreneur and a leading citizen who built the mansion to accommodate his growing family and prominence. Passing through several generations, the descendents of the Moses Myers family, one of them was the mayor of Norfolk decided to restore the house to its original regal in 1892.
